Int-E-Grid | Support for transport and energy transition
We are starting a new Int-E-Grid project. We want to find out how to support the promotion of electric cars and keep the National Power System secure. Forum Energii together with the Electric Vehicles Promotion Foundation and Agora Verkehrswende will develop recommendations for central authorities, local governments and business on both sides of the border, which will facilitate the expansion of electromobility. The project will take one and a half years.
Reducing greenhouse gas emissions and achieving climate neutrality is a key challenge for the European Commission. Not just the energy production sector, but also transport, which is one of the main causes of CO2 emissions, requires major changes and huge investments. Action in both sectors cannot be separated from each other.
So how to safely integrate electric cars into the power system, which moves towards the renewable energy sources?
Cooperation for overcoming barriers
Int-E-Grid is an international project, run jointly by Forum Energii, the Electric Vehicles Promotion Foundation and Agora Verkehrswende, financed by the European Climate Initiative (EUKI). The project will create a platform of cooperation of experts to support changes in transport and the transition from conventional vehicles to electric cars in Poland and Germany. We want to share experiences to speed up changes in transport in a climate-friendly way. There are a number of barriers to overcome - e.g. new legal regulations need to be created to make it easier for investors to develop this new technology, expand grid and vehicle charging stations.
The long-term goal of Int-E-Grid is to reduce CO2 emissions, improve air quality in cities and renew infrastructure. International cooperation within the project will be strengthened by an expertise on how to remove specific barriers to the development of these areas. Better conditions for electric cars in cities will accelerate market development and their implementation will support the use of renewable energy sources.
The Int-E-Grid project is a response to the Katowice Partnership for Electromobility, concluded during COP24 in 2018.
